Ranjan Gogoi takes oath as Rajya Sabha MP
Former Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi took oath as a member of Rajya Sabha on Thursday, March 19.
He was nominated to the Rajya Sabha by President Ramnath Kovind. There was uproar in the house when Gogoi took the oath and opposition members staged a walkout.
However, Gogoi remained defiant of the criticism and said that he will speak after taking the oath. He is the first former Chief Justice of India to be nominated to Rajya Sabha. The vacancy was created due to the retirement of KTS Tulsi.
The former CJI delivered landmark judgement like Ayodhya and was the architect of NRC in Assam. Justice Gogoi, the first person from the northeast who was appointed as the Chief Justice of India on October 3, 2018, had retired on November 17, 2019.
